I might get some heat from some of the Star Wars fan base here, but my favorite gift I’ve ever received was three tickets to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens for Christmas Day. My dad raised me watching the Star Wars (and Lord of the Rings) movies, and I became a bit of a fangirl for the series. I loved the originals and had a love-hate relationship with the prequels (if only Lucas’ wife had taken control of these, too). So when the trailer for The Force Awakens came out, I was giddy, my little (I was 20ish, so not so little) nerdy heart was so excited I teared up (again, I’m a big, overly emotional nerd, and I’m not ashamed of that.
My parents knew how excited I was at the chance to see another Star Wars movie in theaters, so they got tickets for us to see it on Christmas Day, which I believe was either opening day or shortly after. I will never forget that morning, my mom, dad, our dog, and I went to open presents, and my mom handed me a bag with a shirt in it. From the way it was folded, I saw it was a Star Wars tee, got excited, and thanked my parents. My mom had to tell me to unfold it, and out came the tickets. I wish I were kidding when I said I cried. I was so happy and excited for this movie (YES, I was disappointed with how safe Disney played it, just to kill off Han Solo, Leia, and Luke, and to force a romance in order to kill off Luke… like, come on, Disney). Although I ended up not loving this trilogy, this was my favorite Christmas and will always be special to me.
